Dream Journal: I Fight Authority and Authority Always Wins
Okay, I have to know — what is the DEAL with all these “Fight the Man” dreams?
Except in this case, the “Man” was Dame Judi Dench — and the Dame was looking for blood. Specifically, mine — all because I got suckered into trying to help some rebel priestesses win their freedom from a brutal regime.
I swear, you try to help some people…
In this dream, I was locked up in an underground dungeon/cave system with a group of free-thinking priestesses. I had been thrown into confinement with them because I was a wanderer and had no place in the rigid authoritarian society in which I found myself.
Despite my desire to remain aloof, the sisters managed to woo me to their cause. They wanted me to help them win their freedom and help them flee the city so they could find a place to practice their beliefs openly.
(There society was one in which every individual was allotted a role from birth and could never deviate from that role.)
I agreed to help the sisters – but first I needed to find a way out of the cavern system and then figure out how I was going to smuggle them all out of the city.
Eventually I did manage to find a way out of the caverns, but then once I was above ground someone identified me as the outsider I was — and the hunt was on.
From there the dream turned into one long chase dream. At one point I was running through the soldiers’ residence and training complex. They recognized me as a fellow warrior and were very friendly because they didn’t realize I was an outsider. But then the alarm went up and they too, somewhat confused, joined the pursuit.
Next I was running through a forest, managing to stay just a few steps ahead of my pursuers. The forest was like the one around Sherwood Park Elementary school except a much more vibrant green.
(So nuts to the people who say it’s impossible to dream in colour.)
I thought I was going to be free of the city walls, where I could then regroup and figure out how to go back for the priestesses, when I was ambushed. The entire ruling elite had turned out to witness my capture, including the female leader, who looked just like Dame Judi Dench.
Oh, how she gloated.
Turns out I had been ratted out by the priestesses—the very people who had asked me to embark on this dangerous adventure in the first place! I was a little bitter.
Their weak explanation was that they had acted with my best interests at heart. They had come to believe that I wouldn’t be successful in my escape and when I was inevitably caught I would be put to death. This is what they were trying to prevent.
… But by the triumphant sneer on Dame Judi’s face, I doubted that their pleas for mercy would be heard.
I started shouting protest slogans hoping to incite the onlookers to revolt. “No peace without freedom!” I shouted. “Your society is based on a false economy!”
I have no idea what that last one meant, but it sounded good to me at the time.
That was when I woke up.
Other fragments from last night:
- My brother on the nearby mountain who shot the small foam ball at me and kick-started my labour as a result.
- Shopping in the big clothing store, where I saw the really pretty handmade necklace with yellow crystals. An old man explained that the necklace had been created for blind people, because when the crystals knocked against each other they produced the most beautiful jingling sound. The necklace was only $67.50 and so I thought I would buy it. I went to show it to Rob, who was sitting on a chair some distance away, but he complained he couldn’t see it properly. I brought it closer to him, telling him to check out the color of the crystals but he said he still couldn’t see.I kept walking toward him and he kept squinting and shaking his head, until I was bending over right in front of him putting the necklace right in his face.
That’s when I realized his eyes weren’t on the necklace—they were staring down my shirt. He was just trying to get me to come closer and bend down so he could look at my boobies.
… Sometimes dreams ARE just like real life.
