Dream Journal: Suffer the Evil Overlords

On Sunday morning when I woke up the following phrase kept repeating itself in my head:

We suffer then you decide.

… Make of that what you will.

I fight authority and authority always wins... in my dreams

I fight authority and authority always wins... in my dreams

In one particularly vivid dream, there was a battle between a rebel alliance and a brutal authoritarian regime. I was on the side of the rebels, naturally.

The evil overlords didn’t know that I was one of the rebel movement’s ringleaders – or so I thought. Part of me worried I had been sold out by a traitor but I had no proof of this and so wasn’t sure if I should continue on as usual and hope the bad guys didn’t suspect me or go underground before they caught me and put me in jail.

I had to decide quickly, though, because the overlords were coming to check on the progress of a work project I was spearheading.

Before they could reach us, my team of rebels and I were searching for something we thought could defeat the bad guys. We sent a younger member of our crew wading into a river to retrieve fist-sized leeches from the underside of a bridge. These leeches had some kind of magical property that was going to help us in our fight.

… Later on, I was in an upscale hat shop watching women trying on hats. Lorelei from J-School was there. I believe the hats were a symbol of defiance against our oppressors. Because we all know how evil overlords hate haberdasheries.

… Later still, I went to work on a Tuesday even though I was scheduled to go into the office on Wednesday as well. I got there at 8:00 and the building was empty. That’s when I remembered they’d moved the starting time back to 8:30.

Elizabeth was the only person in the office – she’d come in early to finish something off before its deadline. I was talking to her when I suddenly realized I had forgotten to take the boys to their babysitters’ places. Because I had the car, I’d left no way for Rob to take them, either. Doh!

As an aside, I’m currently writing this on a late ferry, worried about the boys because I missed their regular pick-up time due to a change in the ferry schedule, and am wondering if Rob was able to get them or if they feel like they’ve been abandoned by us.

Life imitates dreams imitate life…
